He willed his heavy feet into motion, and bullied his way through the broken stones and twisted, charred heaps that were once bodies, weaving snake-like in the chaos. His nostrils flared, drinking in the scents, trying to distinguish one life from all the death. Clouds, dark as the ash unsettled by his hooves, had suffocated Lunari’s light. Raile was nothing more than a shifting shadow, creeping across the abandoned field.
